Grade item can't be deleted in D2L Brightspace

I am trying to delete grades associated with a learning activity, but the activity longer exists. How do I remove the activity's association so I can delete the grade item in Grades?

Problem

I am trying to delete grades associated with a learning activity, but the activity longer exists. How do I remove the activity's association so I can delete the grade item in Grades?

Solution

Temporarily restore the activity, remove the grade item association, and then delete the activity again. The grade item can then be deleted in the Grades tool.

1. Navigate to the tool where the learning activity original was, such as the Assignments tool, the Discussions tool, or the Quizzes tool.
2. From the More Actions drop-down menu, do one of the following:
   • Select the Restore option for Discussions or Quizzes.
   • Select the Event Log option for Assignments.
3. Click Restore next to the activity associated with the grade item.
4. Select Edit from the menu of the activity to navigate to the edit page.
5. From the In Gradebook menu, select Not in Gradebook option.
6. Click Save and Close.
7. Navigate to the Grades tool.
8. Select the Manage Grades page.
9. From the More Actions menu, select the Delete option.
10. Check the checkbox next to the grade item you want to delete, and then click Delete.
11. Click Delete in the confirmation window.
12. Navigate back to the tool where the learning activity was temporarily restored, such as the Assignments tool, the Discussions tool, or the Quizzes tool.
13. Click Delete from the activity's menu for the activity you want to delete again.
14. Click Delete in the confirmation window.
