December 2025 D2L Brightspace Release
Effective December 18, 2025, new and updated features within D2L Brightspace are available to Instructors as part of the monthly update.
Release highlights include updates to Content, D2L Brightspace (overall), Discussions, Import/Export/Copy Components, and Quizzes. Review the additional resources to learn more.
Content
Manage Version option when updating SCORM package version
With the December 2025 release, the Upload SCORM / xAPI workflow in the Content tool now uses the same version management dialog in the Media Library. This update provides a consistent and modern experience when uploading a new version of a SCORM or xAPI package.
In the Upload / Create > new SCORM / xAPI object window, it lets you now choose Manage Versions for the object. With the existing options to upload a new version or preview an existing one, instructors can now also (1) revert to a different version and (2) download a version package.

D2L Brightspace
Tab groups have new modern style
With the December 2025 release, there are improvements to accessibility and usability with an update to the older tab groups style in multiple tools (like the Classlist, Grades, and Quizzes tools).
The older tab groups style has been updated to align with the modern tab groups style that already exists in other parts of D2L Brightspace. For example, in the modern tab groups style, there is less white space between the tabs.

Discussions
Set one due date on discussion topic
With the December 2025 release, instructors can now specify one due date for a discussion topic. This due date must be between the start and end dates of the discussion topic.
This due date applies to all the student's posts (threads and replies) in the discussion. Important: This due date is not two separate dates for an original thread and replies.
To be notified of the upcoming discussion due date, your students (and your) can enable the Discussions - discussion topic due date or end date is 2 days away option under Instant Notifications on the Notifications page.
For the discussion due date, additional improvements for students and instructors are available in:
-
Discussions: The due date appears under the topic's title.
-
Content: The due date displays for the discussion topic.
-
Calendar: The topic's due date appears in the class calendar.
-
Notifications: When enabled, the due date triggers an automatic minibar notification in D2L Brightspace, email notification, and push notification (via Brightspace Pulse app if downloaded).
For students only, the topic's upcoming or overdue due date displays in the Work to Do widget.
For instructors only, discussion due date improvements are available in:
-
Discussions: The topic's due date appears in the instructor's assessment workflows. A 'late' tag displays for any post the student submitted after the due date.
-
Manage Dates: The topic due date is listed and editable.
-
Grades: The overdue due date for a topic is supported with the automatic-zero grading feature.

Import/Export/Copy Components
Import Components 'view history' page includes filtering options for troubleshooting
With the December 2025 release, the Import/Export/Copy Components > Import Components > View Import History > View Import Log now includes message-type filtering options to review specific message types, such as errors, warnings, or informational notes. This update enables instructors to better identify issues during course package imports.
Previously, the Import Log displayed all message types without filtering options, which made it difficult to review and prioritize relevant information during troubleshooting.

Quizzes
Assign zero points to a question when creating/editing it
With the December 2025 release, instructors can now assign 0 (zero) points to a quiz question to collect non-graded information, for example, feedback or personal input. This feature is especially useful for gathering additional information from students during a quiz or for implementing an "Honesty Code" question at the beginning of the quiz.
This feature eliminates the need for workarounds, such as assigning 0.01 points or manually adjusting scores after submission. Instructors can enter zero points in the points field for any question type within the quiz, ensuring that these questions do not contribute to the quiz's total points.
Previously, entering zero points for quiz questions was not available.
