Review your class grades in D2L Brightspace

Summary

How do I review my grades? What is an exempt or a dropped grade mean?

Body

Overview

Navigate to the Grades tool to check your grades on assignments and tests.  You can review your individual grades, as well any group project grades. To get to your grades, select Grades in the course navigation bar.

What is an exempted grade?

When you review your grades, you may have an exempt grade listed for a grade item.  Your instructor may use an exemption rather than blank or zero (0) to show that you are not required to complete a grade item.  The grade column lists "Exempt" for the grade item.  The Points and/or Weight Achieved fields for the grade item will be empty (i.e. -/-), and the Grade field will list "Exempt".

What is a dropped grade?

In the Grades tool, you may have "Dropped" wording next to a grade item in a grade category.  If your instructor is dropping the lowest grade you receive in a grade category, you'll have "Dropped" next to the grade item.  In that case, the grade score won't count toward your final grade.

During the start of the class, you may have "Dropped" for a grade item if it's the only score that's been entered in the grade category so far.  After you have completed more assignments and your instructor has entered your scores, your lowest score in the grade category would be dropped.

For example, you complete Quiz 1 with a score of 90%.  The Quiz 1 grade will be "Dropped".

Quiz 1 is listed as dropped

You then complete Quiz 2 with a score of 85%.  Quiz 2 is now dropped (as the lowest score) and Quiz 1 counts toward you final grade.

Quiz 2 is listed as dropped
