MacMillan Course Tools

Overview

MacMillan Course Tools allows for an instructor to add an External Learning Tool link to the MacMillion Course Tools. After connecting to the desired tool, an instructor can use the MacMillan Content link to add links to the D2L Brightspace Content tool pointing to MacMillan resources.  Students will then be able to use the External Learning Tool links to access MacMillan resources without the need for signing in.  Grades will be sent back to D2L Brightspace upon a student's completion of that activity.

Instructions for Use

Insert a Link

1. Within a course, navigate to the Content tool.
2. Navigate to a content module, or create a new one.
3. Click Existing Activities > External Learning Tools.
4. Click MacMillan Course Tools.
5. Click on the MacMillan Course Tools link.
6. Click on Connect with…, choosing the desired tool.
   
7. Follow the steps on the screen to complete your account paring and course setup.
8. After your course has been created, assign the MacMillan Resources that you will be using within your D2L Course.
   Note: To send grades back to D2L Brightspace, the MacMillan assignment must be assigned prior to following steps.

Adding the resources to Content

1. Within your Brightspace course, navigate to the Content tool.
2. Click Existing Activities > MacMillan Content.
3. Select the checkbox next to each item you’d like to link.
   
4. Scroll to the bottom right of the window, and click Deploy Selected Content.
   NOTE: If the items are not assigned within the MacMillan course, an error will occur.To fix, assign the item within MacMillan, and then repeat the steps above.
5. The content items selected will be created as content topics within your Brightspace course.

Grade Synchronization

When a student completes an assessment in MacMillan, the grade value will be sent back to D2L Brightspace by a MacMillan batch process that runs every few hours.  To perform an on-demand sync, click on the MacMillan Course Tools link created in the content tool.  Under Support Tools, click on MacMillan Grade Refresh.

Important: If the MacMillan resource was not assigned prior to creating the link to that resource, grade sync for that item will not occur.
