Overview
The Work To Do widget may be available for on a class homepage in D2L Brightspace. The widget shows assigned learning activities that are overdue or have an upcoming due date from the class. This is dependent on your instructor adding dates to the activities in Brightspace.
With the Work To Do widget, you do not have to create a manual to-do list of assignments for the class.
What dates display in the Work To Do widget?
The Work To Do widget displays these learning activities if your instructor added dates to them in Brightspace:
- Assignments
- Checklists
- Content
- Discussions
- Surveys
- Quizzes
All learning activities with due or end dates in the near future or the past appear in the Work To Do widget. Any overdue work will appear under the Overdue section, and upcoming items appear under a section for the next two weeks. The Work To Do widget will display a maximum of six items. If additional items are available, they can be reviewed in the full-screen view via the “View all work” link.

Will Work To Do display activities that don’t have a Due Date or an End Date?
No, the Work To Do Widget only displays learning activities with an overdue dates or upcoming dates.
Does the widget display items that I have already completed?
No, it does not display completed items. The Work To Do widget is for actionable items. Once an item has been completed, it will disappear from the widget.
What’s the difference between the Work To Do widget and how work to do is displayed in Pulse?
With the Work To Do widget, it highlights overdue and upcoming work. You do not have to create a manual to-do list of assignments in your class.
The Brightspace Pulse app displays work to do in a more graphical week-by-week view, and it doesn’t highlight overdue work. But the Pulse app can be helpful for push notifications of upcoming activity due and end dates. Learn more about the Brightspace Pulse app.
