Summary

System Office employes - use this article to reset your StarID password remotely and sync it to your System Office laptop.

Body

SYSTEM OFFICE EMPLOYEES: Follow these steps when changing your StarID password away from a System Office worksite. Connecting to SOVPN first is a critical step and allows your new password sync with your work laptop.

Important: If you change your password before connecting to SOVPN, your laptop may not recognize the new password. You may need to bring the laptop to a System Office worksite to fix the issue.

Before you begin

  • Use these steps when working offsite.
  • Make sure your laptop is powered on and connected to the internet.
  • If using a docking station, keep the laptop connected to it.
  • Stay connected to SOVPN until you confirm the new password works.

Steps to reset StarID password remotely

  1. Connect work device to the internet.
  2. Open Cisco Secure Client AnyConnect from the Start menu.
  3. Connect to sovpn.minnstate.edu:
    • Enter your StarID credentials.
    • Make sure SOVPN shows as connected.
  4. Go to starid.minnstate.edu and select Reset my Password.
  5. Follow the prompts to change your password.
  6. Stay connected to SOVPN for at least 15 minutes after changing your password.
  7. Lock your laptop, then sign back in using the new StarID password.
  8. Confirm Outlook and Microsoft Teams open with the new password.
  9. After confirming the new password works, disconnect from SOVPN.

What to do if password does not synchronize

If the new password does not work on the laptop, bring the laptop to a System Office worksite and connect it to the network. This allows the laptop to receive the updated password.
