What Is StarID?

What StarID Is

StarID is your Minnesota State username. It lets you use one ID and one password to sign in to many systems across all colleges and universities. You only need one StarID, and you use it everywhere StarID login is accepted.

When you change your StarID password at starid.minnstate.edu, it updates in all systems that use StarID.

Why StarID is Used

StarID has a simple format (two letters, four numbers, two letters). It is unique, never reused, and works across all Minnesota State institutions. This helps protect your privacy and makes it easier to sign in to different systems.

Who Gets a StarID

All students, employees, and applicants receive a StarID. Once you have one, it stays with you for your entire time at Minnesota State.

Where to use StarID

Both campus and system-wide services use StarID, including:

  • Email

  • Online Learning (D2L Brightspace)

  • Campus computers and printers

  • eServices

Each college or university may enable different systems, so check with your campus IT service desk if you are unsure.
