Working Remotely & Telework Technology

Overview

These telework instructions apply only to System Office employees. Other Minnesota State employees and students should follow the guidance provided by their campus IT departments, as connection requirements and available tools may differ.

Telework—also called remote work or working from home—allows System Office employees to perform their job duties outside a traditional office setting. To work smoothly and securely, it’s important to understand the tools, systems, and best practices that support remote work.

Key Technology Information

System Office employees rely on several core tools and practices when working remotely:

  • Connectivity – Access to the System Office network through "SOVPN"
  • Enterprise systems – Secure access to email, files, applications, and internal resources
  • Collaboration tools – Microsoft 365, Teams, and other communication platforms
  • Security practices – Using state‑issued devices, following password requirements, and maintaining secure connections

Detailed instructions and step‑by‑step guidance are available in the Telework Technology Information Packet document attached to this article (bottom right).
