What Course Calendar Dates appear in the Pulse app?

It is recommended that faculty include end dates or due dates for course materials to help keep students on track for success in all your courses.  If you set up your face-to-face course materials in D2L Brightspace, students will get those date feeds in the Brightspace Pulse app.

  • Start Date: Date the activity becomes available to students
  • Due Date: Date by which students are expected to have completed the activity
  • End Date: Date that access to the activity is revoked

If you need to modify the due dates or end dates for the course activities listed below, you can use the Manage Dates screen to quickly view course activities by type.

If you set dates in your D2L Brightspace course, the Brightspace Pulse App automatically pulls in the following dates as Pulse Events:

What Course Notifications are sent to the Pulse App?

In Brightspace Pulse, students receive events dates for course materials (as listed above) in the Calendar tab.  In the Notifications tab, students can receive notifications for updated announcement items, updated content topics and course overview, and new/updated grades.  Most notifications are automatically sent to students, while a few notifications allow you to decide whether to notify students that an item has been updated.

New or Updated items in Announcements

Students receive a Brightspace Pulse notification when an announcement item published or is updated with the “major edit” checkbox selected. The announcement item must be available to students (i.e. has a past start date and future end date, or no end date) for students to receive the notification. Note: This notification is only sent to students if the course has started.

Added, uploaded, created, or updated topics in Content

Students receive a Brightspace Pulse notification when after the instructor has created, uploaded, or updated a content topic within a content module.  The content module and the topic must both be available to students (i.e. has a past start date and future end date, or no end date) for students to receive the notification.

Additionally, students receive a Brightspace Pulse notification when the instructor creates or updates the content overview within the Content tool.
