Overview
Quick Eval offers evaluators a single location to view all student submissions that are awaiting evaluation. Submissions made to Assignments, Quizzes, and Discussions are displayed in a sortable list and can be selected to take you directly to their assessment page. Any assessment awaiting evaluation, or with its evaluation saved in draft status displays in Quick Eval.
What determines if a course displays in Quick Eval
- Course is active, and
- Course is between the start and end date, or was recently closed (end date is in the past 7 days).
Note: For other instances, student need to be evaluated from the learning activity within the course.
Submissions View
- Assignment submissions are listed when a student submits a file or text, or marks an assignment as complete. They remain available in Quick Eval until an evaluator publishes feedback for the submission. If a resubmission is made by the student, it is added to the Quick Eval list. For assignments with the completion type Automatically on due date, when the due date passes, all submissions display in Quick Eval. Assignments with the completion type Automatically on Evaluation are not displayed in Quick Eval.
- Discussion submissions are listed when assessable discussion topics are assessed (using the Grade Out Of field) AND have a post or a reply written by a student. When the feedback on a discussion post is published, the student submission is no longer displays in Quick Eval. Submissions with feedback in draft status display a draft icon to indicate their status.
- Quiz submissions are listed when a student completes a quiz that requires manual grading (i.e. the quiz is not set to Auto-Publish on the Edit Quiz > Evaluation & Feedback section). Once the quiz attempt is graded and published (available to the student), it is considered evaluated and no longer displays in Quick Eval. Evaluators only have access to quiz attempts from students in sections they are enrolled in. Note that if a quiz does not have the Synchronize to grade book on publish option selected, then a quiz attempt evaluation from Quick Eval does not synchronize to Grades. If would like to send the quiz scores to the grade book, the evaluator may navigate to the Activities tab, select Publish All for the quiz, and select Export to Grades to push the quiz scores to the grade book.
An unevaluated student submission does not display when
- The assignment is a group assignment with student submission
- The quiz is automatically sent to the grade book but individual questions may need evaluation (such as Written Response type questions)

Activities View
In Quick Eval, the Activities tab displays a dashboard of pending evaluations organized by activities in all your courses. The Activities view makes it easy to complete all assessments for one assignment, discussion, or quiz, before moving on to the next task. An activity shows up in Activities view when there is an unevaluated student submission, or when all students have not submitted to the activity. This feature helps evaluators who prefer to evaluate submissions in the context of an activity.

The Activities view displays indicators to identify new submissions, and show the progress of student submissions, completed evaluations, and published feedback. Hover your mouse over the indicators to access action links to the activity’s evaluation page (Evaluate All), submission page (Submissions List), and publish all feedback (Publish All).

Quick Eval Limitations
- For anonymous discussions, there is no special anonymous evaluation mode within Quick Eval for anonymously submitted discussions. If Discussions are set up to be evaluated anonymously, then you may review user information on some of the submitted work. When the discussion topic is set up with 'Allow anonymous posts' option, you’ll review the student’s name rather than an ‘anonymous user’ in Quick Eval.
- Quick Eval does not list grade items, SCORM objects and LTI activities.
- Quick Eval list cannot be filtered by sections; however, an evaluator only has access to submissions from the sections they are enrolled in.
- The Quick Eval list shows 20 unevaluated student submissions; users can click on Load More to have access to more items.
When student submissions are evaluated and published, they no longer show up in the Quick Eval list. An empty Quick Eval list indicates that no student submissions (that fit the above criteria) are pending evaluation.
