Print a D2L Brightspace quiz for offline assessment needs

Overview 

Starting with the August 2025 release (effective August 21, 2025), instructors can now print a quiz for students to complete offline. This update supports all D2L Brightspace quiz question types, shuffling and randomization options, question pools, multiple versions, and an answer key (in-line with the questions). Instructors can generate up to 10 versions of a quiz on the Print Quiz page. To get randomized versions of a quiz for printing, enable at least one of the available shuffle or randomize settings in a quiz. 

Print a quiz for a student to complete offline

  1. Navigate to the Quizzes tool. 
  2. Select Print from the quiz menu for the quiz you want to print.

  3. On the Print Quiz screen, there are various options, including: randomization with 'number of versions', formatting to add fields, and a toggle to show correct answers on the questions.

  4. Click Print and select your printer options to print or save to PDF. 

 

Generate multiple versions of a quiz before printing

Note: If you want randomized versions, please check your quiz and enable at least one quiz randomize or shuffle setting.)

  1. Navigate to the Quizzes tool. 
  2. Select Print from the quiz menu for the quiz you want to print.

  3. On the Print Quiz screen, you can choose to generate multiple versions of a quiz. In the Number of versions field, enter the number of versions you want to generate, and then wait for the page to update. 
  4. The page will then display multiple tabs, such as 'Version A'. Click on the 'Version' tab to review how the questions were randomized.
  5. Optional: To include fields for students to fill in, select the formatting check boxes: name field, student ID field, and/or date field.

  6. Click Print Version [letter] and select your printer options to print or save to PDF. 

 

Quiz settings that help generate randomized versions for printing

These quiz settings help generate randomized versions of a quiz when on the 'Print Quiz' page. You may enable one or all of these settings in a quiz: 

  • "Shuffle questions and sections" (under Timing & Display) when creating or editing a quiz
    "Shuffle questions and sections" (under Timing & Display) when creating or editing a quiz
  • "Shuffle questions in section" when creating or editing a section
    "Shuffle questions in section" when creating or editing a section
  • "Randomize answer order" when creating or editing multiple choice and multi-select questions

Print a quiz with the answer key for your review

  1. Navigate to the Quizzes tool. 
  2. Select Print from the quiz menu for the quiz you want to print.

  3. On the Print Quiz screen, select the Answer key > show correct answers checkbox. Optionally, choose options for randomization and formatting. The new Print Quiz page with two versions, all formatting options selected, and show answer key selected
  4. Click Print or Print Version [] to select your printer options to print or save to PDF.
