October 2025 D2L Brightspace Release
Effective October 16, 2025, new and updated features within D2L Brightspace are available to Instructors as part of the monthly update.
Release highlights include updates to Assignments, Media Library, and Quizzes. Review the additional resources to learn more.
Assignments
New Annotation tool tips when creating assignments
In the Assignments tool, annotations are only supported for File and File or Text Assignment Types. They are not supported for Text, Observed, or On Paper Assignment types. Additionally, annotations cannot be enabled after submissions have been received for any assignment type.
Therefore, with the October release, the assignment creation page has been improved with better tool tips and on-screen guidance for enabling the annotations option.

Improved assignment type selection when creating assignments
In the Assignments tool, a usability improvement makes it easier to select the assignment type when creating an assignment. A new drop-down menu (previously radio buttons) selects the Assignment Type: individual or group.

Quizzes
Attempt exports retain line breaks in question content
In the Quizzes tool, Instructors can now export quiz attempts using the Export to CSV and Export to Excel options without the process removing line breaks in question text or answers.
Previously, line breaks in question text and answers were removed during export to CSV or Excel.
Hide quiz question points
In the Quizzes tool, instructors can now hide the point value for all questions to ensure students focus on all questions equally, without inferring the number of correct answers based on point value. This feature may be useful in scenarios like knowledge checks where the purpose is to gauge understanding rather than focus on scoring.
This option is OFF by default. You may check the 'Hide question point values' box to turn it on for a quiz.
Additionally, you may choose to hide the point value from students after they submit their quiz attempt. (An existing option.) To do so, edit the quiz, customize the quiz results displays (when editing the quiz), and clear the 'Show the learner's grade for the displayed questions' option for the view.

Figure: From the Edit Quiz page, under Timing & Display, select Hide question point values to hide from students when they take an attempt at a quiz.

Figure: Under Evaluation & Feedback, click Customize Quiz Results Displays > edit the view > uncheck Show the learner's grade for the displayed questions to also hide the points in the submission view.
Improved visibility for insufficient questions in question pools
Note: It should be a rare case to have the new warning indicator next to quizzes and question pools.
In the Quizzes tool, a warning indicator now displays when an existing question pool has insufficient questions, allowing instructors to resolve the issue before students begin a quiz attempt. If a quiz tries to draw more questions than are available in a question pool (for example, 12 questions requested but only 10 available), the page now displays a warning indicator or message. Note: The warning indicator or message displays for question pools in existing quizzes, not new quizzes.
For new question pools, it prevents drawing more questions than are available in the question pool (such as 12 questions requested but only 10 available).
