Create Announcements
Share important information with your students with an announcement. You can create announcements to communicate course updates, changes, and new information to students quickly and effectively. Since the course home page is the first page students often see when they access the online course, announcements are helpful area to provide instructor-to-student communication.
Create a new announcement
- From your course homepage, click on the Announcements drop-down menu, and then select New Announcement.
- Give your announcement a Headline.
- Then enter a message in the Content field.
- Click Publish to make the announcement available to your students.

What order do my announcements display to students
You can pin announcements to display first (at the top) of the Announcements to students. Then other announcements display by the release start date (if applicable) or when they were created with the most recent at the top. However, if you manually reorder announcements (using More Actions > Reorder option), then they appear in that sort order.
Pin an announcement to the top of the list
From the announcement's menu, select Pin to top.

Copy an announcement to other courses
- From the announcement's menu, select Copy to Other Courses.

- Select the destination course(s), decide whether to "Publish announcement on copy" using the checkbox, and then click Next.

- Click Copy to confirm.
- Click Done.
Email a copy of an announcement to your Classlist
When creating or editing an announcement, you can choose to send a copy to everyone in their Classlist as an email using the Send email copy check box. This feature is available in the November 2025 D2L Brightspace release, effective November 20, 2025.

When an instructor selects the Send email copy check box and publishes/updates the announcement, the system emails the content of the announcement to everyone in the Classlist. The email will originate from the email address of the person who selects the Send Email Copy option and publishes the announcement. That person's name is included in the email subject line and message.

Notes:
- For announcements scheduled to publish later, clicking the Send email copy check box emails users in the Classlist at the time that the announcement is published.
- For announcements with release conditions, the announcement is only emailed to users who meet the release conditions, as well as the instructors (and TAs) in the Classlist.
- The Send email copy option is automatically deselected when an announcement is copied or edited, and the option can be selected again before publishing/updating the announcement.
