Body

Note

  • These instructions apply only to System Office employees who need to reset their StarID password. Students and campus employees should follow the What is StarID? knowledge base article for general guidance.
  • System Office employees: resetting your StarID password requires a connection to the System Office network.

Step 1: Connect to the System Office Network

  • Complete this process using your state-issued work laptop.
  • Before you reset your password, your state‑issued laptop must be connected to the System Office network in one of the following ways:
    • Remote – Connect through SOVPN (refer to the Working Remotely & Telework Technology KB article for details)
    • On‑site – Use a docking station at one of the System Office worksite locations (Wells Fargo Place, SCTCC, Granite Falls, MSU‑Moorhead)

Important: Resetting passwords without first being connected to the system office network will result in password issues that can only be resolved by physically bringing your device into the office.

Step 2: Reset Your Password

  • Go to the StarID site at https://starid.minnstate.edu and follow the instructions to reset your password.
  • Make sure your new password meets all requirements listed on the site.

Step 3: Stay Connected and Test

Stay connected to the network

  • If connected onsite using a docking station, keep your device connected
  • If offsite and remotely connected to SOVPN, keep connection after and do not disconnect

Test new password

  • Do not disconnect until you have tested and confirmed the new password works.
  • Once password is verified, you may disconnect from the network.
  • Be sure to log off SOVPN when done.
