Overview
The Account Settings tool is available within D2L Brightspace. You can adjust the settings in the Account Settings and Discussions tabs to meet your personal needs, such as your online status, accessibility options, and pronouns.
Access Account Settings
Click Account Settings from your personal menu on the minibar. Use the tabs on the page to review and edit display options.

Settings on this tab are not related to a specific tool.
- Pronouns – set pronouns that when enabled are visible to other classmates in the Classlist of your courses. Select Allow others to see my pronouns and then select Use different pronouns, and enter your pronouns.
- Font Settings - adjust the default the font size of text in the system. It does not affect images, documents, and other objects (such as mathematical equations).
- Reading Content - if you are using assistive technology (such as a screen reader to navigate the web), then select Do not automatically mark items as read as the page scrolls. This option ensures that your assistance technology does not automatically mark content as read as you scroll it into view.
- Video Settings - if you are using assistive technology (such as a screen reader to navigate the web), select Optimize video presentation for programmatically-driven assistive technologies. This option ensures that your assistive technology can detect embedded videos; it does not affect the accessibility of specific video players.
- Time Zone - sets all dates that include times in D2L Brightspace to correspond with the time zone you specify. Note: If you are traveling outside of your original time zone, you can update your time zone settings to accurately reflect assignment and activity due dates.
- Signing In > Online Status sets whether you appear offline or online to other individuals when you are logged into D2L Brightspace (such as from the Classlist).
- Application Settings - click Revoke Access if you want to force all your applications or devices to renew their authentication, for example, if you are logged in to the Brightspace Pulse app at the campus D2L Brightspace site.
Discussions
Personal Settings
Personal settings control the way you review posts inside a discussion topic. These personal settings apply to all courses wherever you access discussions, but do not affect other individuals. You can also access these same settings by navigating to a course Discussions tool and accessing the Settings page.
- Display Settings > Always show the Discussion Topics List - use this setting to show or hide the list of topics in the View Topic and View Thread pages. Hide it to save or show it to switch between topics quickly.
- Reply Settings - use this setting to automatically include the original post by default when composing a reply.
- Subscription Settings - use this setting to select whether to subscribe to a thread by default when creating a new thread.
