Manage Threads and Posts in Discussions in D2L Brightspace

Copy a thread or post to another discussion

Threads and posts can be moved to discussions other than the original topic they are posted to. If you think a thread or post belongs in a different topic, you can move it by copying it with the option to delete the original threads or post. If a thread or post is applicable to more than one topic, you can copy it into as many other topics as you want.

Copy a thread or post

1. Navigate to the Discussions tool.
2. Select View Topic from the topic’s menu.
3. Select Copy Thread or Copy Post from the thread or post’s menu. 
   
4. Select where you want to copy the thread to using the Destination Forum and Destination Topic menus.
5. Decide whether to delete original post after copy completes using the check box.
6. Decide whether to copy replies using the check box.
7. Select Copy.
   

Delete threads or posts in a discussion

1. Navigate to the Discussions tool.
2. Select View Topic from the topic’s menu.
3. Select Delete Thread or Delete Post from the post’s menu.
   

Note: Instructors can restore deleted threads and posts from the Discussions tool.

Restore a deleted discussion

Note: Group-restricted discussions cannot be restored until the associated groups are restored first from the Groups tool.

Restore a deleted forum or topic

1. Navigate to the Discussions tool.
2. Select Restore from the More Actions button.
   
3. Select Restore beside the forum or topic you want to restore.
   
4. Select Yes in the confirmation.

Restore a deleted thread or post

1. Navigate to the Discussions tool.
2. Navigate to the Settings page.
3. Select the Display deleted posts check box, if not selected.
   
4. Select Save.
5. Select View Topic from the topic’s menu.
6. Do one of the following, depending on the view you are using for Discussions:
   • In Reading View, select the Restore Thread link for the deleted thread you want to restore. Decide whether to also restore any replies to this thread with the check box and then select Yes.
     
     
   • In Grid View, select the deleted thread or post with the strike line through it. Select the post's subject line to view it, select More Actions, and then select Restore.
