While many D2L Brightspace integrations use a common set of tools, every integration differs in its implementation and its capabilities. Each integration requires a thorough review prior to be implemented, as outlined in Third Party Integration Overview. To assist staff in evaluating and configuring the integration, here is a list of questions you should ask any vendor.
Integration Basics
- How does the integration communicate with D2L Brightspace? (Examples include LTI, Brightspace API, or a custom integration)
- Does the integration send grades back into D2L Brightspace? If so, what method does it use to send grades to D2L Brightspace (examples above)?
- Is there a cost (licensing requirement) for the integration? If so, please explain.
Usability Concerns
- Does your product comply with accessibility guidelines? If so, to what degree? (Examples could include screen readers tested, WCAG compliance, VPAT statement)
- Does the integration require a cost for the student? Please explain.
Implementation Concerns
- Do you have administrator documentation for the setup of the integration? If so, please provide.
- Who can we contact for integration configuration support?
- If your integration uses LTI, does it support LTI 1.3 and has it been certified?
- If your integration uses the Brightspace API, does it support OAuth2 authentication?
Security Concerns
- What information is being stored in your application? (Examples could include user identifiable information, user contact information, student grades, activity tracking.)
- Can you provide a HECVAT or 1EdTech Security Rubric for your product?
