Overview
Hypothesis allows for an instructor to create an External Learning Tool link for Hypothesis. Upon clicking the LTI link, the instructor inputs a URL to an online document. When a student clicks the LTI link, they will be added to the private group for the online document and authenticated via Single-Sign On (SSO).
The Hypothesis LTI integration makes use of a school wide LTI (External Learning Tool) configuration.
Instructions for Use
Insert a Link
- Navigate to the Brightspace Content tool.
- Click Existing Activities > External Learning Tools.
- Click Create New LTI Link.
- Enter a Title.
- Paste the following URL: https://lms.hypothes.is/lti_launches
- Click Create and Insert.

- Click on the newly created External Learning Tool link.
- Follow the prompts within Hypothesis to complete the link setup.
Grade Synchronization
Important: If the grade item is not associated with the Hypothesis External Learning Tool link prior to a student using the link, the student will not show up in the list of students to assess within Hypothesis.
To associate the Hypothesis LTI link with the D2L Brightspace grade book, review the Assessing LTI & SCORM article.
After the grade item has been added, a student will need to navigate through the link for that student to be graded in Hypothesis.
Support Resources
Problems with the platform or its integration should be directed to Hypothesis support.
