The process individuals use to sign in to D2L Brightspace, Zoom, and Kaltura changed on Saturday, August 9, 2025. You are now prompted to enter your Microsoft 365 account:
- Students: StarID@go.minnstate.edu (example - ab1234cd@go.minnstate.edu)
- Employees: StarID@minnstate.edu (example - ab1234cd@minnstate.edu)

Q: Why did the sign in process change for D2L Brightspace, Zoom, and Kaltura MediaSpace?
A: Using Microsoft 365 (Entra ID) as our sign in system enhances your account security by leveraging multi-factor authentication (MFA). Additionally, you can use single sign-on (SSO) to seamlessly navigate between services using the same sign in process including Microsoft 365, D2L Brightspace, Zoom, and Kaltura MediaSapce without re-entering your user name and password. (Note: Individuals accessing Workday are still required to perform multi-factor authentication at each sign in attempt.)
Q: What changed?
A: The username for each of your accounts in D2L Brightspace, Zoom, and Kaltura MediaSpace was updated from StarID to StarID@minnstate.edu (employees) and StarID@go.minnstate.edu (students).
Q: What username do I use to sign in?
A: Students will sign in using StarID@go.minnstate.edu (e.g. ab1234cd@go.minnstate.edu) and employees will use StarID@minnstate.edu (e.g. ab1234cd@minnstate.edu). These are the same credentials you use to sign in to Microsoft 365.
Q: What other data fields changed in D2L Brightspace, Zoom, and Kaltura MediaSpace?
A: The following data fields also changed in each service. If you reference these fields in another service or integration these will need to be updated.
- D2L Brightspace
- Usernames were updated to the Microsoft 365 (Entra ID) username.
- Students: StarID@go.minnstate.edu
- Employees: StarID@minnstate.edu
- Employee TechID's were updated to include a '.e'. For example: 0123457 will become 01234567.e
- Zoom
- Email addresses match the address used as your primary Microsoft 365 email address.
- Zoom maintains a data field titled, cms_user_id, which it uses to associate Zoom recordings with your Kaltura account. cms_user_id will changed from StarID to StarID@minnstate.edu or StarID@go.minnstate.edu
- Kaltura Mediaspace
- Usernames were updated from StarID to your Microsoft 365 (Entra ID) username.
- Email addresses will match the address used as your primary Microsoft 365 email address.
Q: I have a student AND an employee account (dual accounts) in Microsoft 365, which do I use to sign in?
A: Any content created before the August 9, 2025 was associated with your employee account, including:

Q: My campus uses Zoom Phone and I use a Zoom Phone number for multi-factor authentication requests. Can I use that phone number?
A: If you are not signed in to Zoom Phone, you might not receive the phone call or text message required to verify your identity. To avoid this, users should set up an alternate phone number that is in addition to/different from your Zoom Phone number before August 9.
Q: How do I review my multi-factor authentication methods?
A: Review, change, or add to your verification methods
- Passkey in Microsoft Authenticator – Sign in with your face, fingerprint, PIN
- Security Key – Sign in using a USB, Bluetooth, or NFC device.
- Microsoft Authenticator – Approve sign-in requests or use one-time codes.
- Hardware Token (This requires assistance from your campus technology staff) - Sign in with a code provided through a hardware token.
- Generates a 6-digit code every 30 seconds.
- Doesn’t require a phone or app.
- Ideal for users without smartphones or who prefer not to use personal devices.
Q: I need to setup multi-factor authentication (MFA) on my account. How do I get started?
A: Review the setup MFA information document.
Q: What should I do if I am unable to sign in to D2L Brightspace, Zoom, or Kaltura MediaSpace?
A: Contact your technology help at your campus or contact the Minnesota State Service Portal.
Q: The email address listed for my account in Zoom and Kaltura is not correct. How do I change this?
A: Zoom and Kaltura use the primary email address associated with your Microsoft 365 account. If you have email addresses from multiple institutions, you can set your default primary email address.
Q: Can I log in with a local account to Zoom or Kaltura?
A: No. Accounts for Zoom and Kaltura require successful authentication through Microsoft 365 (Entra ID) in order to access the services.
