Create and manage audio-video content within Media Library
Media Library offers a consolidated media processing, storage, and streaming option for the media files in D2L Brightspace. After using Record Audio and Record Video buttons in other D2L Brightspace pages, the media files are stored in the Media Library. To access the Media Library, select Media Library from the Other Tools navigation bar menu. The Media Library provides the following options:
- Add Assets: Access the Record Audio and Record Video options, along with an upload a file option.
- Create Folder: Create a folder to organize your media assets.
- Sort: Menu to sort audio-video content uploaded to D2L Brightspace.
- Filter: Sort audio-video content various filters.
- Search: Search for specific audio-video content in the Media Library.
- Multi-select: Select a check box to select media, and then select options ( ... ) to delete or move to a folder.
- Action menu (...) with options to:
- Preview content.
- Download audio-video content to a device.
- Edit video to create manual or machine-generated captions using the editor.
- Manage Versions of the media asset.
- Duplicate the media asset to make a copy.
- Move To a folder in your Media Library.
- Rename the media asset.
- Edit Description of the media asset.
- Delete the media asset.
- Recycle Bin: Review and restore deleted media asset.

Create audio-video content with Add Assets button
From the Media Library, you can record and create video and audio content in Media Library using the Add Assets button.
- To access the Media Library, select Media Library from the Other Tools navigation bar menu.
- In Media Library, select Add Assets, and then select Record Audio or Record Video.
- If the browser prompts you to allow microphone and/or camera access, select Allow.
- Select New Recording.
- When you finish recording, select Stop Recording > Next.
- Enter a Title, Description, and select the Audio Language. Ensure that your video is effectively closed captioned by selecting Automatically generate captions from audio.
- Select Finish.

- An ‘Uploading’ dialog appears at the bottom-right of the Media Library page to indicate the percentage of your video uploaded so far. A check mark appears in the dialog when the upload is complete.
Upload external media file to your Media Library
Add an external media file to your Media Library using the Add Assets option. You can upload an existing media file to your Media Library account.
What media file types are supported in Media Library
The following file types are supported in the Media Library.

Note: If problems are discovered while playing a media file after upload, try using the <Optimize for Streaming> option in the Media Library’s edit page. This option optimizes the file for Brightspace and resolves most playback issues.
Upload media file to Media Library
- To access the Media Library, select Media Library from the Other Tools navigation bar menu.
- In Media Library, select Add Assets, and then click to browse.
- Navigate to and select the file you want to upload.
- An ‘Uploading’ dialog appears at the bottom-right of the Media Library page to indicate the percentage of your video uploaded so far. A check mark appears in the dialog when the upload is complete.
- After the upload is complete, edit the item and caption the media (if applicable).
Restore a deleted media file to your Media Library
From the Media Library, you can restore a recently deleted media file back to your Media Library. Items in the Recycle Bin will be permanently deleted after 90 days.
- To access the Media Library, select Media Library from the Other Tools navigation bar menu.
- In Media Library, select Recycle Bin.
- Select the check box next to the item you want to restore to your Media Library.
- Select Restore Selected.
- When you finish recording, select Back to return to your Media Library.
- The restored media file is available in your Media Library.
