My Home page versus course homepage
The My Home page is your starting point inside your campus D2L Brightspace site. It is also your campus's D2L Brightspace homepage where you can access widgets, tool links on the navbar, campus-wide announcements, and other available resources.
In contrast, the course homepage is the first page you get when you navigate to a course. It also contains widgets, tool links on the navbar, and resources that enable you to access course specific content.
Individuals return to the course home by clicking on the course name about the course navbar, or by clicking on the course from the Course Selector menu in the minibar.
Navigation bar
The navbar is your main navigation tool within a course. It displays tool links and resources.
Minibar
The minibar displays at the top of every page in D2L Brightspace. It allows you to switch between your courses and return to the D2L Brightspace site’s homepage. The minibar contains a link to the My Home page, the Course Selector menu, the Notification Alerts icons, and your Personal menu.
Course Selector
The course selector lists your courses. You can sort courses by course name or by date last accessed. Click Load More Courses to expand the course list, or use the Search field to find your courses. You can also select specific courses from the course selector and pin them to the top of the list for easier navigation.
Alerts
Alerts are always accessible in the minibar and notify you when you receive new instant messages, course updates, or subscription updates. There are three different alert types:
- Message alerts – Alerts for new instant messages, and access to the Email tool to send emails from D2L Brightspace.
- Subscription alerts – Alerts for new discussion posts you have subscribed to for forums, topics, and threads.
- Update alerts – Alerts for new and updated announcements, upcoming end dates and due dates for course materials, and new or updated grades.
If you have an unread alert, a red circle appears on the appropriate alert icon.
Personal Menu
The personal menu contains links to your profile, notification options, account settings, and log out. Click on your name in the minibar to open the personal menu. Your personal menu lets you edit user-specific settings, including your profile, notifications, and account settings. You can also log out of the site from your personal menu.
Log out of D2L Brightspace
The Log Out link is located from the personal drop-down menu in the Minibar. Selecting Log Out takes you to the login page for D2L Brightspace.
