(Last Updated: September 2026)
Minnesota State partners with campuses to support a smooth semester start and ongoing service throughout the year. Use this quick reference to route common questions, reduce duplicate requests, and connect students, faculty, and staff with the right support.
Start Here
- Current Service Desk hours are located on the Contact Us page on the Minnesota State Service Portal.
*Do not rely on saved or printed copies of this or any other document for current hours.
- Knowledge Base articles in the Minnesota State Service Portal (https://servicedesk.minnstate.edu/) provide helpful answers and process documentation for many common questions.
- Student support starts at the campus. Please do not refer students directly to the Enterprise Service Desk. Student issues must first be reviewed and supported by the local campus. If escalation to the System Office is needed, campus employees should submit the service request on the student’s behalf following the steps in the next section. This helps avoid delays and significant frustration for students.
Requesting Assistance and Reporting Issues
- Submit service requests through the Minnesota State Service Portal (https://servicedesk.minnstate.edu/)
- Reference the Using the Minnesota State Service Portal knowledge base article for details on how to use the portal.
- Use the Portal search bar first. Search by keyword, then choose the best matching service or knowledge base articles.
- Include a person’s full legal name, TechID, StarID, and campus(es), when available.
- Include helpful verification details when appropriate, such as date of birth, middle initial, phone number, address, or last four digits of SSN.
*Never include full Social Security numbers.*
- Attach relevant documents, emails, or include screenshots to help clarify the issue.
- Reply to the ticket notification email to add information or ask questions on existing requests.

StarID and MFA
|
Each person should have one StarID, even if affiliated with multiple colleges or universities. This includes students, faculty and staff. Avoid Multiple StarIDs. Verify using available systems including ISRS and the StarID Administrator application.
Start with starid.minnstate.edu for answers to most StarID questions.
StarID Verification Codes and MFA Resets must be completed by local campus IT staff for students and employees. Enterprise Service Desk team members cannot generate these codes or perform MFA resets for anyone other than system office employees.
Designated campus IT staff can submit a MFA Reset form: https://mnscu.sharepoint.com/teams/SO-O365CoreTeam/SitePages/Home.aspx
If additional research or assistance is needed, campus employees may submit a ticket through the Minnesota State Service Portal and select either the StarID or Microsoft 365 Account or Password service or the Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) service accordingly.
|
|
TechID / Student ID
|
Campus staff should assist students with TechID questions, and may submit a ticket if additional assistance is needed.
Be sure to properly verify the person. ISRS is the current source for student information verification.

|
Duplicate Resolution and Core Merge
|
Duplicate Resolution: Needed when a person has more than one TechID at the same campus. Designated campus staff review and clean up the duplicate records (deleting multiple IDs). If data is missing after a TechID is removed, submit a Core Merge service request.
Core Merge: Needed when a person has more than one MnSCU ID across institutions or enterprise services (re, CECT D2L), or when data is missing after a campus resolves a Duplicate Resolution. Campus staff should submit a Duplicate Resolution service request.
These situations should be addressed expeditiously. Timely resolution allows students access to eServices, registration, tuition, financial aid, and related services.

Batch Job Requests
|
Submit batch job requests as early as possible. Requests submitted after 3:00 p.m. may not be processed until the next business day.
|
|
Secure File Share / MoveItSecurely
|
If a recipient cannot access a package sent through Secure File Share (MoveItSecurely), the sender should submit a ticket using the Secure File Sharing (MoveItSecurely) service. The sender remains the recipient’s contact through the process.
Additional information about MoveItSecurely can be found in the Secure File Sharing (MoveItSecurely) knowledge base article on the Minnesota State Service Portal.

Campus Referrals
The items below should begin with the appropriate campus office or campus IT/service desk. Please do not refer students, faculty, or staff directly to the System Office IT Service Desk. If System Office support is needed, campus staff should submit the service request on behalf of the individual.
